Monday Morning Ramblings

I often get asked, how do you know? I often ask myself, how do you know, when you like someone? What is it about them? I think boys are more pragmatic about it when asked, but in reality I think they are the same as girls in as much as, they know, they just know… But how?

I was talking to a guy last night about his girlfriend and we were talking about how you know. We skirted around the subject by talking about temptation and the fact that he keeps himself away from it. His opinion was, that the reality is that one will always be tempted. My best friend Robert says that when you are truly in love you cannot physically go near someone else. So here are two opposing views as our starting point.

We all know when we find someone attractive, but we don’t always know why. Something about someone sparks something off in us, but do we always know what it is? I will come back to attraction and the laws of it, but right now I want to think about how you know, when you want the attraction to lead to something more. By something more I am talking about a date, a relationship, a beginning.

I have described it once as :

You feel your cheeks raise, your eye brows tighten, your mouth widen, your entire face rise upwards towards your forehead and your eyes get thinner. You realise, you literally have no control, over the fact that you are physically reacting to the inner smile someone just produced over your face, which you couldn’t hide no matter how much you wanted to.

The butterflies, the desperate desire to impress, the comfort, the fact you remember everything, like the world is on slow motion when its you and him.

But how do you know if its a beginning? You don’t, but what you do know is, you couldn’t bear to not find out.

I wrote a couple of days ago about Hellos and I am not saying now that I have found one, but simply wondering what it is I am supposed to be looking for… And I think I am realising that the beauty of it all is that I am not supposed to be looking for anything as you do simply, just know….
